The year-end brings me no greater pleasure than the opportunity to express to you season's greetings and good wishes.

Governor Tony Edge

Because the goodwill of those we serve is the foundation of our success, it's a real pleasure at this holiday time to say "thank you" as Bev and I wish each of you happiness and success at home and in our Clubs.

Throughout the District this is one of our busiest times. Food drives, food baskets, Christmas tree sales, Christmas Parades, and Breakfasts with Santa to name just a few of the projects we accomplish in the last month of the year. I congratulate each and everyone who have contributed time and efforts at this busy time of year, in the service of those less fortunate. Our fundamental message remains the same:

“By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves."

I applaud each and every Optimist throughout the District as we work tireless hours in our Clubs to fulfill this mission.

At this time of high visibility in our communities I encourage each and every Club to commit to spreading our enthusiasm for a better world by staging a NOW event for their Club. Instead of just asking people to join our Clubs, Y-Not ask if they would like to make our communities better places to live and assist in enriching the lives of our youth. Who could possibly answer no?

We have just returned from a very successful 1 st Quarter Conference in Barrie where a large segment of the “Optimist Strong” agenda was focused on the ways that Clubs can increase service to their communities by increasing membership and bringing Optimism to other areas not serviced by an Optimist Club. Many Clubs shared what has been successful and what hasn’t in their efforts to increase membership. NOW events are the single most effective way of attracting new members to our Clubs with social Media a close second. The fun and fellowship rolls on to our 2nd Quarter Conference to be held in Oakville on February 9-10 as we celebrate the accomplishments of our 2016-17 team under the guidance of Past Governor Mac Rumble. We will recognize our top Clubs and Zones at the 33rd Annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday February 10th .

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our District Conferences to share your own projects and fundraising ideas as well as representing your Clubs at Board meetings. Don’t forget, you have a voice in policies and the direction of the District. Y-Not!

Once again, I wish you and your families our warmest thoughts during this Holiday Season. Enjoy!
